Shanta Renee, was born in Texas but was raised in the suburbs of sunny California. Having two younger siblings, family holds a special place in her heart. Ahead of the game, Shanta graduated high school early and headed off to community college and then university. Upon graduation, she worked in the medical field for years but soon realized the beauty industry was her passion and true calling. For most women makeup and hair care is another task added on top of their busy day, but not for Shanta. She would often hear how does she get up so early and when does she find the time to do her makeup and hair, but for Shanta makeup and hair is the divine time for one’s inner creativity to shine! “Putting on my makeup and fixing my hair makes me feel beautiful, powerful, and unapologetic. If you look good you feel good,” Shanta said.
There are defining moments in everyone’s life but for Shanta these moments came in three. One being the birth of her son, two coming out as a Lesbian to her family, and lastly losing both her father and brother. Shanta knew she was a Lesbian and who she was at the age of 12 but did not share her sexuality with anyone until her son was two months old. Growing up in her home, being a mother was not expressed as a joyful experience but becoming a parent was something Shanta knew she would fulfill in life. Her fondness for becoming a parent developed over the years as she played the “mother” role in her younger siblings lives. Shanta and her brother being only five years apart in age, had a bond like no other which is why losing him has played such a major role in who she is today. Her father motivated her to know herself, love herself, and was and still is a big influence in her life. Other people that influence Shanta are Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Warren Buffet and Tyler Perry.
Shanta’s future plans are to become one of the biggest beauty brands in the world and to manufacture her own products in a world class facility. “I want Shanta Renee Beauty to be up there next to Sally's Beauty, Walmart and Target” she said. As a Black Lesbian and beauty entrepreneur, Shanta’s goal is to help people in need and connect her brand with people of every sex, age, color and economic background. Another monumental desire of Shanta’s is to provide urban media, branding, and marketing companies partnerships and opportunities with her brand. This is important to her because she values the role of being the lifeline of culture these companies hold and believe they deserve the same respect and opportunities as other non-urban companies in the beauty realm.
